ATTENDANCE PROCEDURES AND POLICIES

Attendance Policy

Learn more about Tamalpais High’s attendance procedures.

Please report absences in one of the following ways

Please make sure that all emails and voicemail messages include the student’s full name, grade and the reason for the absence.

Absences (including appointments) must be reported within 72 hours or students will be considered unexcused.

Appointment protocol

  • Appointments (medical/dental) need a written note or email, from a parent, caregiver or doctor
  • Your student must check in at the front office in advance of the appointment (preferably in the morning), to pick up an Off-Campus Pass
  • Students returning during the school day, must check back in at the office to pick up a Return to Class Pass

Leaving early due to illness

Please make sure your student checks in at the nurse’s office who will need to talk to a parent or guardian before they leave.

Doctor’s notes for illness days and appointments

Once a student has nine (9) excused absences, any further excused absences for illness or appointments will require a doctor's note. If a doctor’s note is not provided for an excused absence after the 9th absence, the absence will be recorded as unexcused.

Period attendance corrections

If your student believes they have been accidentally marked absent or tardy in a class period, they should resolve this directly with their teacher. They can pick up an Attendance Correction Request from the front office to give to their teacher.

Warranted Absences

Warranted Absences need to be signed by all parties and filed in the Attendance Office at least 48 hours prior to a student’s departure. Some examples of an absence needing a Warranted Form on file are college tours, attendance at an immediate family member’s funeral, observation of a religious holiday or ceremony, employment conference or interview, etc.

It may take approximately 72 hours for us to process attendance corrections due to the high volume of requests.

The Attendance Office is located in the Main Office Room 141 in the Wood Hall Building.
