AP Exam Information
We are approaching an important time of year: AP Exam Registration will open on Monday, September 29, 2025. The cost of each exam this year is $110. These exams are a valuable opportunity for students to demonstrate their learning and earn potential college credit. To make sure every student who wishes to take the test is able to do so, it is very important to complete the registration process carefully and on time. We are sharing this information well in advance so families have the time they need to review the requirements, understand the steps, and prepare for a smooth registration experience.
AP Exam Registration Steps
Step 1: Register and Pay through Total Registration
-
Visit the Tam High website: https://tamalpais.tamdistrict.
org/
-
Click on the “Academics” tab.
-
Select “AP Exam Information” from the dropdown menu.
-
Review the instructions provided, then click on the Total Registration link.
-
Create or log into your account on Total Registration. We recommend using a personal email address so you can access your testing and College Board information even after graduation.
-
Complete the required fields, select your exams, and submit your payment.
*The cost of each AP Exam this year is $110
-
Save or print your confirmation receipt after submitting.
Step 2: Confirm on College Board
-
Log in to your College Board account.
-
Go to “AP Classroom” for each AP course.
-
Ensure that your exam status is set to "Registered for Exam" for each exam you have paid for.
-
Double-check that the exam(s) you paid for in Total Registration appear correctly in your College Board account.
Important Notes
-
Both steps are required: Registering and paying through Total Registration and confirming on College Board. Failure to complete either step means you will not be registered.
-
If you do not plan to take an exam, log into your College Board account and mark “No” for “Order Exam” to avoid being charged.
-
Always use the same legal name and personal email address across both systems.
You are not fully registered until you have:
- Paid through Total Registration
- Confirmed your exam(s) in College Board
- Received a confirmation receipt
Important Reminder about Join Codes
Some students may have already entered the AP Classroom join code provided by their teacher earlier this year. Please note: joining an AP Classroom does not complete exam registration. Students must still complete both steps listed above (Total Registration and College Board) in order to be fully registered and eligible to test.

Stand Out in College Admissions
Deciding to take an AP course lets colleges and universities know that you have what it takes to succeed in an undergraduate environment. When admissions officers see “AP” on your transcript, they know that what you experienced in a particular class has prepared you well for the challenges of college. Taking AP is a sign that you’re up for the most rigorous classes your high school has to offer.
Earn College Credits
By taking an AP course and scoring successfully on the related AP Exam, you can save on college expenses: most colleges and universities nationwide offer college credit, advanced placement, or both, for qualifying AP Exam scores. These credits can allow students to save college tuition, study abroad, or secure a second major. AP can transform what once seemed unattainable into something within reach.
